HUJI ultra, two HM men held in Kishtwar, Doda
9/7/2010 12:15:55 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 6: In a major success, security forces today captured a top Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) militant from the dense Tander nullah forests of Dachchan, Kishtwar, and two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) sympathisers from Doda.
Police sources identified the HUJI militant as Yasin alias Junaid, son of Ghulam Qadir of Tander, and the HM sympathisers as Nawaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Qayoom, and Farooq Ahmed, son of Ghulam Qadir, both residents of Labar in Marmat, Doda.
Sources said police and army jawans were combing Tander forests since September 1 evening when at least four militants had escaped after an encounter with them.
As the escaped militants were suspected to be hiding in the woods, the jawans did not call of their operation, the sources added.
Sources said when the jawans were moving towards a thickly forested stretch this afternoon, they spotted a person in combat dress. When he was asked to surrender, he fled.
He was, however, chased and apprehended by the jawans, the sources added.
His frisking led them to the recovery of one grenade and a radio set. One 7.62 mm SLR was was recovered by the jawans from the encounter site on September 1.
It was suspected that Yasin and other HUJI militants were responsible for the killing of SPO Masood Ahmed at Krusa Tander on August 30 last.
Yasin's sustained interrogation was on. Sources said HM sympathisers -- Nawaz and Farooq -- had been providing logistic support, eatables and other daily use items to HM militants active in and around Marmat, besides managing temporary places of shelter for them.
Both had strong HM links and were apprehended today on a tip-off, the sources added.
Nawaz, wanted in several extortion cases, was also involved in the killing of SPOs -- Riyaz Ahmad and Abdul Ghani -- in Marmat area in 2009. He allegedly accompanied the militants who had murdered the SPOs, the sources added.
A case in this connection stands registered against him and the militants under FIR No 232/2009 and sections 302 of RPC, 7/27 of Arms Act and 4/5 of explosive substances Act.
One Insas rifle, one pistol and ammunition were taken away by the militants from the slain SPOs. From the possession of Farooq, police recovered one .303 rifle, 35 Insas rounds, 15 AK rounds, four binoculars and one IED.
