BJP gears up to retrieve Pak migrants’ rights in upcoming assembly session | | | Early Times Report Jammu, September 8: In the coming session of the state legislature, the BJP would raise the issue of granting representation to the leaders of the migrants from Pak held areas in the state assembly by reserving at least eight seats for them. This was assured by BJP Legislators party leader Chaman Lal Gupta to a group of the activists from the Pak held areas, who complained that in the state legislature no arrangements have been made for their representation although in the state constitution as many as 24 seats have been earmarked for these areas. They pointed out over one lakh families of Hindu, Sikhs and other minorities were forced to leave PoK or change their religion. These families had moved in a painful situation to this side of the state but so far these unfortunate people have not been settled on permanent basis nor the claims of their properties were registered, and above all no representation have been ensured for them in the state legislature. These activists pointed out that in the 49-member assembly of so-called Azad Kashmir, as many as eight seats have been reserved and one seat has been given in the list of special invitees although all these nine persons are residing outside Pak-held Kashmir at different places in Pakistan. But it was unfortunate that no arrangements have been made even for those who are residing in this side of the state in Jammu and Kashmir. Gupta said that he was fully aware of the problems of these migrants but the ruling leaders of the Congress and those of the National Conference had always acted under communal and parochial considerations as result of which all such like issues remained unsettled. The BJP leader said that even the proper registration has not been made of these displaced persons from Pak Occupied Kashmir. Gupta observed that what more can be ridiculous that those people who during the troubled days of 1947, had migrated to Pakistan, their left out properties are being still guarded by the Custodian Department even after 63 years of their migration and having opted for citizenship of Pakistan but their is little record even of the left out properties by the migrants from enemy held areas and no effort was ever made for preparing of the inventories of their properties.
