| Antony visits Leh; Oversees relief, rescue operations | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Sept 8: Union Defence Minister A.K.Antony accompanied by Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General P.C.Bhardwaj visited Ladakh where he was received by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lieutenant General BS Jaswal and General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps Lieutenant General SK Singh.
Defense Minister was briefed by Lieutenant General SK Singh on the rescue and relief operations at Tyakshi in Nubra Valley, where Army had suffered casualties due to the mudslide on the night of August 05/06 August 2010. Antony appreciated Army's efforts in rescue and relief operations in the area.
Later in the day, the Antony flew over the calamity affected areas adjoining Leh to assess the damage. Lieutenant General SK Singh later briefed him on the latest situation in Ladakh and the role of the Army in providing succor to the affected people of Ladakh and restoration of connectivity along Zoji La and Rohtang axis.
