World Literacy Day observed

Jammu, Sept 8: A massive rally of about 200 students drawn from different Govt. school was jointly flagged off by MLA Ashok Khajuria, Director School Education Jammu, Zahida Khan the personnel officer from the directorate of school education Nirupama Rai and the chief education officer, Natha Ram Dingra here today. The rally started from the chief education officer’s office culminated at SRML, HSS. The rally was held to mark the world literacy day sending the message across the country that no Indian should be illiterate as the Govt. has started various schemes to eradicate illiteracy, Balloons, Banners, flags, play cards, were carried by the students who were shouting slogans to eradicate illiteracy and inviting every body to be literate. Speaking on the occasion Zahida Khan laid stress to eradicate this evil from its very bud. She said that it is duty of every citizen of India to help all illiterates to be literate and asked the students to make every body aware of the schemes started by the Govt and to benefit from them.
Meanwhile, the Education department at Kishtwar organized a rally on the occasion of World Literacy Day in which the children of from various Govt. schools and private academies participated. The rally was flagged off by G.R. Bhagat Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar. The rally comprising on thousands of students passes through different routes of Kishtwar and the slogans in support of literacy was raised throughout entire rally. Chief Education Officer Ajit Sharma said that there is a great need to organize such programmes as they succeed in awaring the masses about the importance of being literate and cited many examples in this regard. Several educationists, district officers and social workers and teachers were present and lauded the role of CEO Kishtwar for raising the educational standered by paying surprise visits to the schools . The police had made elaborate security and traffic arrangements enroute rally.
