| Mattoo inaugurates seminar on Hindi Literature | | | JAMMU | OCT 26 Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor Jammu University (JU) today inaugurated a three-day National Seminar on “Contemporary Scenario of Hindi Literature” at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, JU. The seminar is organized by the Hindi Department of JU in collaboration with “Kendriya Hindi Nideshalaya”, New Delhi. Ex-Prof Delhi University, Dr. Nirmala Jain and Dr. Rajmani Sharma were also present on the occasion. The function started with the lighting of traditional lamp by Prof. Mattoo, Dr. Sharma and Dr. Jain. Prof. Neelam Saraf, HoD Hindi presented the welcome address and said elaborated upon the state of Hindi literature in the contemporary scenario. Raising the issue of decline in the modern literature, Prof. Jain added that age of globalization has caused serious repercussions over the standard of literature, as it has now become just a source of income and only few of the litterateurs are contributing to the society in real sense. Prof. Jain, while speaking during the inaugural session said that subject of literature is sidelined in the contemporary society owing to the commercialization. She added that disciplines of Law and Management have been dominating the academics. Under the present context literature is assuming an important role and it should be relevant to all the ages. Prof. Mattoo also spoke in length over the importance of literary activities in the development of the society. The second session held at the seminar hall of Hindi Department under the chairmanship of Dr. Arjun Chauhan, HoD Hindi Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
