Consensus being evolved on Political package: Soz | High command to decide on rotation of CM, allies need to move together | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 8: Hinting at a broadbased "Political Package" from Centre for the state, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Prof. Saifuddin Soz today said it will not be 'imposing or discriminatory', instead, shall incorporate the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh as well. Soz also indicated that efforts were on to evolve consensus on the 'political package' and the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will soon convene All Party meet before announcing the package. "Congress High Command is fully aware of the aspirations of Jammu and Ladakh region.......these cannot be ignored nor shall the political package be any region specific", PCC chief said, adding that consensus is being evolved at the national level with regard to package for the state. PCC Chief asserted that Congress is committed to unity and integrity of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and for the equitable development of three regions. He said that Congress party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi is in the service of people. He said that Congress takes care of the interests of people of different sections and protects their interests. He referred to the efforts of Sonia Gandhi and central government for the relief and rehabilitation of the people of Leh in Ladakh region of the state The seasoned politician did not dismiss the recent remarks of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that hardliner separatist Geelani's views shall also be taken into consideration with respect to Kashmir issue. "In a democracy the views of all have to be heard......discussion is the essence of consensus....", Prof Soz said, albeit in guarded manner. On the political front, the PCC chief admitted there was no coordination between ruling partners National Conference and Congress at the ground level in the state, but stressed the need for both the parties to move together. Soz, who is also Chairman of coalition government's coordination committee, told group of reporters here. "Coalition politics is very difficult," he said but emphasized the need for both the parties to move together. "The way is laid with thorns, boulders and snakes but there is no other way except to tread on the same path," Soz said quoting a Sanskrit verse. On suggestion of senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma for rotational Chief Ministership in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, "it is for the party High Command to take a decision in this regard." He said that Sharma at a party convention in Samba had made a suggestion for rotational Chief Ministership after three years. "I cannot reject it as Sharma is a senior party leader and also cannot support it. Party High Command is aware of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and it is for them to take a decision," he said. Earlier, addressing a large gathering at Nud in Akhnoor, Soz said that congress party has the talent, experience and ideas to serve people and lead the nation towards progress and prosperity. Congress party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has provided best leadership to nation, added Soz. Praising leadership quality of Sonia Gandhi, Soz described her as a symbol of tolerance and source of inspiration for all Congressmen in the country. Rally had been organized to celebrate election of Sonia Gandhi as President of the Congress for the fourth time. He said that the board for the OBC's in the state is also a result of the efforts of congress party and the coalition government. He appealed to all congress men to strengthen the party and work unitedly to strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi. Senior Vice President Pr. Mangat Ram Sharma in his address asked congressmen to work for strengthening the party in the state. He praised the Nehru-Gandhi family for giving sacrifices for the sake of the nation. He also congratulated Sonia Gandhi over her re-election as Congress president. He also congratulated Madan Lal Sharma and Sham Lal Sharma for their tireless efforts to serve people of the state. Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma in his address criticized those forces that are always on the lookout for the opportunity to divide people on caste, communal and regional lines. However, he said that congress in the state under the leadership of Prof. Soz would defeat those attempts, do justice with people of each region, and respect their sentiments. Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla also referred to the efforts of the government to solve the problems of different sections of the society. He said that state is on the path of peace, progress and prosperity and every region would get its due. He referred to the efforts of his department to extend the benefits of relief package of Prime Minister to the refugees of POK. Bhalla said that congress under the leadership of Prof. Soz is getting stronger in the state. Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma in his welcome address congratulated Sonia Gandhi on her re-election and appreciated the efforts of PCC Chief for strengthening the party. Other senior leaders also addressed the gathering and asked party men to resolve to strengthen the party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Prof. Soz in the state. Senior leaders of the party, Ministers and Legislators attended the function. Prominent among them included Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Hari Singh, Yash Paul Khajuria, S.Gurmukh Singh; Ravinder Sharma, Amolak Singh, Kanta Bhan, Sawran Lalta, Bashir Ahmed Naaz, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Indu Pawar and Baldev Sharma. |
