Children take to streets, register protest | No mid day meal in Kalakote, ZEO Rathal, Dhendesar face public rage | | EARLY TIMES REPORT rajouri, Sept 8: If the hue and cry raised by the students of a High School in Kalakote tehsil is any indicator, all is not well on the front of education in this border district of Rajouri. While eye brows are being raised over alleged illogical transfers of teachers, the scene of mid day meal scheme is also hazy and blurred with question marks over its implementation for the deserving lot. Hundreds of students enrolled in Government High School Garn in Kalakote tehsil today converged in streets and held protest demonstration alleging that they were not being provided mid day meal for the last 8 days. They said that although government is providing the school authorities funds for the same, no mid day meal has been served to the students during the last 8 days. Students raised anti-Zonal Education Officer slogans and alleged that education authorities are themselves taking benefit of mid day meal of the students. When contacted, Headmaster of the School Munshi Khan admitted that no mid day meal was served to the students in his school. He however said that he had approached ZEO Kalakote regarding the same on 25th of last month however he got no response from the authorities. "When I will receive ration from the higher authorities only then I can serve mid day meal to the students", Khan said. On the other hand, sources said that locals on Tuesday stage protest against ZEO Lower Rathal Kasturi Lal and alleged that he has made transfers in an illogical and irrational manner in the area. Sources said that the ZEO was also stopped for two hours on road by the locals when he was approaching towards ZEO Sunderbani Office on Tuesday. The locals even alleged that the ZEO has virtually turned the school defunct. "Our school is almost defunct ......ZEO enjoyed his power and made transfers of the teachers", locals said adding that the area is already facing shortage of teachers and there was no logic in transferring the teachers of the Rathal area. The locals said that there is no transfer policy and those having 5 years stay are not been transferred while those with 2 years stay were transferred. They also said that female teachers were transferred to inaccessible areas and some influential male teachers were given edge by transferring them to their choice places. In education Zone Dhendaser, there are large scale complaints about unnecessary transfers of the teachers. Sources said that locals had ransacked ZEO office in the area for making illogical transfers. They alleged that education authorities are making biased transfers in the area. The ZEO was already facing an enquiry into returning of Pahari students' scholarship in which more than 4 lakh of students scholarship was returned to government without its distribution. Sources said that there are various schools in Budhal tehsil where no mid day meal is being cooked due to non supply of ration from higher authorities. Chief Education Officer when contacted said that mid day meal is the right of the school children . On an assuring note he said and if there are some complaints he will personally enquire and take necessary steps in this regard. He, however, refuted the allegations regarding transfers. He said that he himself has made these transfers and all have been moved according to rules. He added that there may be some rift of locals with the ZEO who are making hue and cry over transfers. |
