EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 8: A woman, whose bloodstained body was recovered from Thakra Kote forests of Ganjot in Reasi, remains unidentified even after nearly 10 months of the incident.
She had blood stains on her nose, and her left eye and lips were swollen.
It seemed as if she was murdered and her body was thrown in the forests to avoid detection of the crime, police sources said.
The body was first spotted lying in the forests by some passersby who had then informed Reasi police station under whose jurisdiction the area fell. Sources said on the day of the recovery of the body, her one leg had been eaten by some wild animals.
Cops had reached the spot and evacuated the body to the Reasi district hospital where as per the law it was kept in the mortuary for 72 hours for identification.
When no claimant came forward, police had performed last rites on the body after taking its photographs, the sources added.
Sources said a handkerchief was recovered from her which had the name of Delhi Public School (DPS) embroidered on it.
During investigation, it was known that the Rajouri branch of DPS had got made such handkerchiefs for its staffers, the sources added.
A police team from Reasi was then despatched to DPS, Rajouri. Sources said the deceased's photographs were shown to the school management and staffers, besides some students, but no one could provide any clue to her identity.
Sources said the victim had a very fair skin and looked beautiful. It seemed as if she was either from Rajouri, or Himachal Pradesh. She wore salwar kameez.
Sources said if anybody knew anything about the deceased, he or she should immediately contact police on telephone Nos 01912566460, 01912566461, 01912566462 and 01912542001.
