JMC conducts drive against adulteration on eve of Id-ul-Fitr | | | Early Times report Jammu, Sept 9 : Under the instructions of Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu, S.C. Sawhney, a team of food inspectors led by Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation inspected various food establishments to check the quality of food items being sold in the city especially during the holy month of Ramzan and forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr Festival. The team inspected various establishments like sweet shops, milk and milk products shops, cooked food dhabas, cheese shops, meat and chicken shops in the areas of Talab Khatikan, Gujjar Nagar, Shahidi Chowk, Residency Road, New Plot, Narwal and B. C. Road. During the inspection about 90 food establishments were checked and 13 defaulters were booked under the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 and a fine of Rs. 3000 (Rupees three thousand only) was charged from the defaulters on spot. In addition to this, 40 defaulters were challaned under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954. The team also destroyed 30 kgs of substandard milk, about 10 kg of stale cooked food and 20 kgs of rotten fruits on spot during the drive. The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again directed the food establishment and vendors especially those dealing in milk and milk products, meat and chicken sellers to ensure supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which, strict action shall be taken against them. Besides this, while continuing the drive to check the adulteration of milk especially on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr festival, the team led by Municipal Veterinary Officer visited the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, Jain Bazar, Chowk Choubutra etc., and checked 123 units of milk cans, out which 28 units of milk cans were sent to laboratory to check the quality of the milk and 5 units of milk cans found unfit for human consumption were destroyed. A fine of Rs. 4650 was charged from the defaulters on spot. The team had also visited the areas of Sabzi Mandi, Parade, Indira Chowk etc., and seized the polythene carry bags. A fine of Rs. 3200 was also charged from the shopkeepers who were using the polythene carry bags. The team lifted 23 stray animals from the areas of Janipur, Amphalla, Talab Tillo, Bahu Fort etc., and impounded the stray animals in the Municipal Pound. A fine of Rs. 2360 was also charged from the owners of these stray animals. |
