KPC highlights problems confronting migrants | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 9: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) today highlighted problems confronting Kashmiri migrants and stressed for their early resolution. In a joint statement issued after the visit of a team of KPC to Purkhoo and Nagrota migrant camps today, state unit president KPC-Satish Pajnoo, General Secretary, P.N. Pandit and its women cell President- Sheela Handoo said that inmates of both camps were facing acute water scarcity and electricity problems. They said that inmates of Purkhoo camp have been suffering immensely due to lack of water from last one week. They further said that the condition of Nagrota camp was not much different. They said that inmates are forced to fetch water from a tube well located 500 meters away from the camp. Referring to plight of camp inmates, they expressed anguish and urged upon government to enhance the relief for migrants up to 12000 rupees per month. "It is impossible for family to sustain over paltry assistance of Rs. 5000 per month keeping in view skyrocketing prices of essential commodities," they said and added that it is almost impossible for most of the migrant families to make both ends meet.
