Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 9: The situation of school education in Jammu region is not up to the mark in many aspects.
Deprived of many fundamental features that qualify for being a school catering to all aspects of the students' learning, many of the government schools in rural as well as urban settings are running without norms and features that add to the sufferings of the students.
The library which is considered as the store house of knowledge and pre-requisite in all the schools is horrifically missing in all the schools. Even if it exist in some of the schools then its state is worst than worse. As per prescribed norms, every school must be provided with the library, laboratory and proper play ground for the overall development of the adolescent students. Even many schools are without the facilities of water and electricity. As far as the situation of the providing facilities to the government schools, it remained a neglected part of the successive state governments of the state.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jammu Natha Ram Digra said that there were about 1500 schools in district Jammu alone. Digra said that from this year onwards, we had implemented Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan for High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools on the pattern of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). Under this scheme, each and every facility such as library, laboratory even staff, required in the schools would be provided, added Natha Ram Digra. He also said that work on implementing this scheme was going on fast track.
Director, School Education Jammu region Zahida Khan said that there were thousands of schools in Jammu region and added that though there were deficiencies of basic facilities in some of the schools, the department is doing its best to mitigate the problems being faced by the students. "Condition has improved a lot as compared to the previous years," she has said.
