WHERE IS GM SAROORI…….? Congress leaders clueless, speculations galore
9/9/2010 11:23:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 9 : Even as the supporters of Congress MLA from Inderwal, ex minister GM Saroori staged demonstrations recently in his favour in the home constituency, the sacked minister's absence for a long time is becoming conspicuous, fuelling all sorts of speculations in the political circles in state. He is missing in action, at least within the state borders, since August 25, the day he left the country to perform Umrah in UAE.
Fifteen days on and the inquisitive people have started raising queries about his whereabouts.Even the state Congress leaders, apparently clueless, have started asking such questions from the close relatives and his friends. All that everyone knows is that he left for Umrah and 'has not yet returned'. May be he is back after performing religious rituals during the ongoing holy month of Ramzan, but there is no clue as to where actually he is at present. "He is on Umrah and will return soon…… why are you worried about his absence…….. he is not a minister now so he can stay away on his own sweet will …….. he is not holding any office", this is how some Congress leaders privately responded to queries when they were faced with questions about Saroori's presence. On the other hand, even the state Chief Minister after sacking R&B Minister from his council of ministers has not bothered to review the progress of the investigation in the alleged MBBS/BDS impersonation racket scam, a reason which cost Saroori his ministry.
Nor the state police appears to be taking keen interest to probe the matter thoroughly and has done enough exercise to show to the outside world that they are working in the case and investigations are still going on. Ironically, the state government which has shot off letter to the CBI authorities requesting them to take over the case has no idea whether the CBI will take up the case or not. Till now the CBI has not responded formally to the state government request. Meanwhile, long absence of Saroori from the scene has allowed his detractors to target him and question the reasons behind his long absence."If his daughter has been a beneficiary of the impersonation racket why is he running away from Jammu……?" As a public representative his first responsibility is to help the law abiding agencies probe the matter in detail and extend them all support. A section of the Congress leaders sympathetic towards Saroori say fearing possible arrest in the impersonation case the congress MLA may have been buying time and deliberately staying away by way of extending his stay in UAE. Politicians who have already performed Umrah from the state said fifteen days is a long period .Generally people return within 10-12 days i cannot comment why Saroori is taking too long to return home, a senior congress MLA from Doda said. It may be mentioned here that after name of Saroori's daughter surfaced in the impersonation case the party high command had directed him to submit his resignation but instead of following the direction Saroori chose to fly out of India and was later sacked by Omar Abdullah on August 26.
