Clean sweep by MIER in badminton

JAMMU, Sept 9: Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) School today made a clean sweep winning both boys and girls titles in the annual inter-school under-19 badminton tournament, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here. In the boys' final, MIER trounced Dewan Badri Nath (DBN) School 2-1. In the first singles, Aman Badyal beat Chander Manhas in straight sets 21-10, 21-11 but only to find DBN pair of Manish and Sumit winning the doubles match beating Aman and Varun 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 21-16). However, in reverse singles, Ritu Raj clinched decider beating Arun in easy straight sets 21-09, 21-06.
Earlier, in semi-final, MIER defeated Maharish Vishav Mandir 2-0: Results: Sumit bt Pranjal 21-18, 21-19 and Ritu Raj and Munish bt Pranjal and Adhey 21-05, 21-03. Meanwhile, in girls final, MIER registered a 2-0 win over JK Public School. In singles, Manisha Kour beat Rupal rather easily 21-02, 21-03. Later, in doubles, Manisha Koul and Antra Pandit downed the pair of Maria Mir and Kavaayaarthi 21-07, 21-03.
HOCKEY: Dewan Badri Nath (DBN) School clinched the inter-school boys' under-19 hockey title beating Government Higher Secondary School Gandhi Nagar by two goals to one. Earlier, in the semi-finals, DBN registered win over HSSS Gole Gujral while HSS Gandhi beat SRML Higher Secondary School 3-2. Meanwhile, in girls section, no team turned up for participation thereby making it a flop show on the second day today.
TABLE TENNIS: KC Public School clinched both boys and girls' titles in inter-school under-19 table tennis tournament. In the girls section, KC Public beat JK Public 3-0 to win the title. Only two teams turned-up in girls' event resulting into a direct final. Meanwhile, in boys final, played today, KC Public defeated the same opponent in JK Public School 3-0 to make it a clean sweep in table tennis.
