IT raids ex-minister Raman Mattoo's house, factory | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 9: Income tax (IT) department sleuths from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, accompanied by their colleagues in Jammu and local police, today carried out day-long searches in the house and medicines factory of former minister Raman Mattoo here. The eight IT sleuths, who were led by a woman officer, arrived here Wednesday and chalked out a detailed strategy with local IT officials before conducting the raid. The sleuths swooped in on Mattoo's house in the posh Green-Belt Park area of Gandhi Nagar at about 8 am and did not allow the family members to leave the premises till the searches were over at about 5.30 pm. Police sources said while Mattoo was not in the house at the time of the raid, his brother Dr Sameer and the latter's wife were at home. The IT men came from Indore to raid his house here because he had hidden his movable and immovable property from the department, the sources added. Sources alleged there was no mention of his several properties in the list submitted by him to the department in Indore. Before leaving, the IT men made a detailed inventory of the seized files and other documents related to Mattoo's property in Jammu, Indore and other areas. Sources said the Indore IT team also raided Mattoo's medicines factory at Bari Brahmana and seized incriminating files and documents from there too. Both Mattoo and his brother Sameer had business concerns in Indore, besides movable and immovable property worth crores, the sources alleged. Sources said their business concerns in Indore, including some medicine manufacturing factories, were in partnership with a local businessman. Sources said after seizing the records, the team left for Indore in the evening. All efforts to contact Mattoo failed as he did not pick up the phone despite repeated attempts by this correspondent. |
