Powerful IED planted on Jammu-Poonch Highway defused, major tragedy averted | Ultras trying to turn Eid red | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Sept 9: With destroying of a powerful Improvised Explosive Device on Jammu-Poonch Highway today, intelligence sources have reportedly given inputs to police and security forces that ultras might target Eid congregations in twin border districts of Rajouri Poonch following which security has been intensified and security agencies were put on high alert to avoid any untoward incident. Police sources said that a major incident was today averted on Jammu-Poonch highway by destroying a powerful Improvised Explosive Device in Bhata Dhurian area which was reportedly planted by ultras to target movement of people on the occasion of Eid. Sources said that exercise of destroying IED took army and police atleast 5 hours which also resulted in disruption of traffic on the highway. Sources said that when Road Opening Party (RoP) of 37 Rashtriya Rifles was on its routine patrol, they saw a suspicious substance dug up in the supporting wall of Jammu Poonch Highway, about 44 kilometer from here in Bhata Dhurian village of Mendher tehsil in Poonch district. The army saw this suspicious substance early in the morning at about 6 am. Following tracing out IED, army sealed the area and did not allow any vehicular traffic on the road. Bomb disposal squads of 38 Rashtriya Rifles were pressed into action who took atleast 5 hours to complete the process of destroying the IED. Sources said that the IED was powerful and it could have destroyed a major object and caused mass loss of lives. Police sources said that following the destroying of IED, intelligence agencies have given inputs that ultras might attack Eid congregation to harass people. They said that the IED might have been planted to target the people moving here and there in attending Eid celebrations. Following inputs, security forces and police have intensified security check in the area. They have reportedly been kept on high alert to keep vigil in the area. All suspected places are being checked and Road Opening parties have been pressed into action to clear all roads in the area. When contacted, Deputy Inspector General of Police SD Singh Jamwal has admitted that ultras might have planted this IED for targeting people on Eid movement. He said that they have already kept vigil in the area and are trying to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion of Eid. |
