Trans-himalayan motorcycle expedition flagged off | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Sept 10: General Officer Commanding in Chief of Northern Command Lt Gen B.S.Jaswal flagged off trans-Himalayan motorcycle expedition of 20 Motorcycle riders of 'Always First' Ladakh scouts Battalion from Udhampur in a grand function organised at headquarters of northern command. Expedition commenced from Karu, near Leh on September 4, 2010 and has since then covered 710 kilometers of tough and challenging terrain, passing through Kargil, Drass, Zojila, Srinagar and Banihal before reaching Udhampur on September 8, 2010. Enroute the expedition had undertaken numerous ventures like an Ex- Servicemen Rally, a Medical Camp and a motivational lecture for school children in far-flung areas of Drass urging them to join the Indian army. The expedition will now be proceeding to Wagah Border, Chandigarh and Manali. In doing so, they will put to test, the endurance of the riders and their machines, as they will climb from near mean sea level to the dizzying heights of Rohtang Pass, Baralachla and Tanglangla passes, located at nearly 17500 feet. Expedition will finally terminate at Leh on September 18, 2010. Expedition is being sponsored by Hero Honda Motorcycles. |
