Government may face stiff opposition on withdrawal of AFSPA | Himalayan feature | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 10 : With Union Government's reported move to provide Eid special package to the Kashmir which also includes the withdrawal of Armed Forces Special powers Act (AFSPA) from various districts of the J&K, the Government is to face stiff opposition from various right wing organi-sations of the state against the decision. Various political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as National Panthers Party (NPP),Shiv Sena (SS) and Kranti Dal have already expressed their anger and resentment against the decision and resentment against the reported move of the Union Government. Besides some social and religious organisa-tions including Vishaw Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have also expressed their ire against the decision and warned the Government of serious consequences in case it succumbs to the separatists pressure. These parties in unequivocal terms have made it clear to both State and Central Government that any further concession to State will lead to demoralisation of ant-nationalist forces in J&K and give amoral boost to separatists who are blackmailing the Union Government by taking the people of Kashmir to ransom through their agitational programme. The BJP which held its Executive meeting here today to deliberate over the issue has taken serious exception to reported move of Union Government regarding withdrawal of AFSPA from two districts in Jammu and region including Samba and Jammu district two in Kashmir Valley including Ganderbal and Srinagar. The party according to sources while challenging the rationale behind the Government decision said that withdrawal of the AFSPA from Jammu and Samba will prove very dangerous as both the districts fall on International border and have been the conduits of infiltration. They said in 2008 May militants sneaked from Samba border killing four people including one photo journalist. This was followed by another infiltration from Kanachak Sector in Jammu district in 2009 when militants killed number of persons in Domana and Chinore near Bantalab. The BJP while criticizing the move said that Pakistan has not closed the terrortist training camps on its soil and youth form Kashmir continue to exfiltrate to PoK for seeking arms training. This being a dangerous situation the Government can't take a risk by giving militants a free hand in attacking the civilians after sneaking from across the border into Indian territory. terming the withdrawal of forces a dangerous step the BJP is understood to have also made it clear to the Government that soon the separatists came to know that the Union Government has succumbed to their pressure and army is going to be withdrawn from some districts of the state they intensified their activities by attacking an Army convoy at Pattan Palhalan yesterday evening in which three jawans were killed and five others were seriously injured. Cautioning the Government against the move the BJP has asked it nt to take any decision in hurry to please the chief Minister Omar Abdullah who strongly advocates withdrawal of AFSPA to have an upper and against his arch rival and PDP supremo Ms Mehbooba Mufti. Such a decision will have serious repercussions instead of doing any good to the people of state, the BJP has informed the Union Government. The Party has also warned a state wide agitation in case the Government goes ahead with its decision. The Party Executive meeting which was chaired by its state president Shamsher Singh Manhas and attended by senior party leaders including Prof Chamman Lal Gupta, Dr Nirmal Singh and Ashok Khajuria has also indicated that the Party will not allow Government to take any decision at this juncture which will boost the secessionists in the state. Same views were expressed by VHP and Bajrang Dal. While taking the strong exception to the Government's move the leaders of two parties Dr Rama Kant Dubey and Shri Kerni have asked the Union Government that no decision on the issue be taken with out taking the nationalist forces in the state into consideration. They said such a step will further embolden the separatists and terrorists who will not only intensify their activities but also throw the state into an anarchy. They said if the act is to be withdrawn then the police officers, politicians ministers and CM should withdraw their own security guards. The JKNPP Shiv Sena, Kranti Dal and other political parties have expressed similar views. |
