Nehru-Gandhi family responsible for creating problems in Kashmir: BJP

early times report
Jammu, Sept 12: Leader of BJP Legislators' Party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta lashed out at the Congress led UPA government at Centre and blamed it for creating confusion and anarchic conditions in Kashmir Valley. BJP leader attributed the present crisis to wrong policies of Congress , alleging it was weak and submissive as a result of which confused and panicky voices were emerging .
Holding Nehru-Gandhi family responsible for complicating the problems in Kashmir, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta stated that the current turmoil in the Valley of Kashmir is not the first one in this troubled part of the country but the only major difficulty is that at present is that there is weak Govt. at the Centre and many of the men in authority there do not know even the geography of this State, not to say of the psyche of Kashmir. These confusing voices are bound to generate more heat than any light, he observed.
Interacting with a group of senior students of Political Science belonging to Delhi and some other places, Prof. Gupta shed light on some vital aspects of the history of such sad happenings prior to painful communal partition of the country and after accession of this State with the Union of India.
He recalled that in 1931, how the Muslim Conference had emerged on the political scene of Kashmir and later on in 1939, this very Muslim Conference was renamed as National Conference in wake of friendship between late Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Because of this closeness, between the two, no branch of the Congress was setup in this State and this national party to the surprise of many operated in J&K through this adopted NC. It was only in 1965 after the death of Shri Nehru, during the stewardship of Shri Lal Bhadur Shastri the full-fledged unit of the Congress was established in this State and several other steps were also taken towards integration with the rest of India.
He also recalled that after 1947, invasion of this State by Pakistan, J&K was in turmoil in 1952-53, when Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah started harping for plebiscite in Kashmir to decide its future at the instance of certain foreign powers. But the then Praja Parshad led by Pt. Prem Nath Dogra and the BJS under the towering leadership of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji challenged the separatist moves and made tremendous scarifies to save this State for India.
The frustrated Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah went to the extent of humiliating New Delhi and publically insulted Moulana Azad and some other New Delhi leaders. Shri Nehru was in a quandary. But the nationalist Rafi Ahmad kidwai and some others put their foot and because of their efforts his colleagues of Sheikh managed the dismissal of then Prime Minister Abdullah and he was jailed and he reminded and said the situation was handled stoutly. The Sheikh remained in be wilderness for as many as 22 years, when in 1975, he had an Accord with Smt. Indira Gandhi and became Chief Minister.
The veteran politician also recalled turmoil in 1965 also when the armed Pak invaders had infiltrated and reached to Batmaloo in Srinagar and quite deep in other parts of the State, when ultimately Pakistan was made to eat and humble pie within just 17 days.
Prof. Gupta also recalled the events of 1971 Indo-Pak war and said that the defeat of Pakistan and surrender of over 90,000 Pakistan troops had provided a great opportunity to India to settle permanently all issues including Kashmir with Pakistan. It was unfortunate that Nehru-Gandhi family again fumbled and not to say of settling the issues, at the table more mistakes were committed, so much so, vast areas of Chhamb comprising about 30 villages were handed over to Pakistan as a "good will gesture" with the notions that this would bring permanent peace between the two neighbours. Despite this Simla Agreement, there was little let up in the design of theoretic State of Pakistan, he added.
He further recalled that there was turmoil in the Valley in 1984 when the Congress leadership manipulated the overthrowing of the Farooq led NC Govt but to the amusement of many, the NC leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah in 1986, joined hands with Shri Rajiv Gandhi and a Coalition of the two estranged lovers came into being. This coalition in 1987 elections committed many fouls resulting in resentment among the people which was exploited by hostile Pakistan and in 1988-89 a Proxy war was launched in J&K by Pakistan which is still continuing in various forms.
The BJP leader in his detailed review of the situation in Valley said the only difficulty in tackling the turmoil in Kashmir is the missing of vision and strong will to overcome the problem. Hence, the confused voices are emerging both from Srinagar and New Delhi. But there are reports also that what is happening in Kashmir these days, some high ups of both from New Delhi and Srinagar are also in league, he alleged.
