Feed advertisements first, cure would come later | J&K's health woes | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 12: In a rare example of official apathy of its own kind, Jammu and Kashmir health department notified an advertisement "Symptoms and Precautions" to be taken in case of conjnctvitis or eye flu in all the local newspapers today. Patients and the concerned people lamented the fact that such is the callousness of the health department that it took them nearly three weeks to wake up and take note of diseases which have already spread across Jammu region. According to reports, GMC hospital has been receiving more than 200 cases on routine basis. Locals are peeved over the apathy of health department. In another glaring example of official negligence, while the entire Doda-Ramban belt was battling Diarrhea and Gastroenteritis, health department was busy inaugurating medical and blood donation camps. It needs to be reiterated here that it was only after almost half a dozen deaths that Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma briefed media persons in Jammu on September 1, 2010 regarding the number of affected persons of Diarrhea and Gastroenteritis. He also informed of various measures government, health department was taking to contain diseases. Ironically, Minister during that press conference appealed commoners not to panic, stating that situation was under control. Although, it is said that prevention is better than cure but health department seemingly does not believe in this adage.
