EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 13: Jai Jawan Jai Kissan Kandi Area Development Committee (KADC) on Monday expressed concern over poor health infrastructure in block Dansal of Nagrota constituency.
Addressing the media persons here, the state president of the Committee, Anil Sharma said the successive governments in the State have ignored the Nagrota constituency, particularly block Dansal where no attention has been paid to upgrade health infrastructure since 1960.
"The health institutions including Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and sub-centres in block Dansal are supplied the same quantity of medicines which was being allotted to this remote belt in 1960. At that time the population of the block was around 25000 which has now touched the staggering mark of 1.5 lakh," Sharma said.
He regretted despite registering six times increase in population of the block, no steps have been taken to upgrade the health infrastructure particularly supply of medicines to different health institutions and demanded enhancement in supply of medicines to the block.
The Committee president while unfolding miseries of the people living in block Dansal said, "The patients, particularly pregnant women are worst sufferers of government's indifferent attitude as they have to travel a distance of about 60 kilometers for routine checkup.
There are several instances where either the mother or her child have to die because non-availability of Gynecologists in PHCs."
Sharma demanded the government should take immediate measures to sanction the posts of Gynecologists in different PHCs in block Dansal so that the precious lives of mothers and their children are saved.
Highlighting the poor infrastructure in health sub-centres in Sidhra, Bajalta, Pargalta, Kana Chadgal, Anthem, Sagoon and Barga, he said majority of people living in these areas belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) and they cannot afford to travel long distance for medical treatment.
"The government should raise the infrastructure in all these health institutions for better health care services to the people," he said. He also demanded setting up of two accidental hospitals on national highways, one at Jajjar Kotli on Jammu-Srinagar national highway and other at Krishenpur or Manwal on Samba-Udhampur national highway.
He further demanded an ultrasound machine for PHC Dansal and mobile medical facility in different far-off places of the block.
