Jammu ready for holding under-19 football championship | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 13: Pulling its socks for upcoming 56th National School Game Football Championship under 19, State Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs have completed all the formalities and also constituted various committees and sub-committees to manage the whole event. The games will be started on September 20, 2010 and continue up to October 1, 2010. Six venues have been finalized for holding the matches. These venues included Jammu University ground, MAM Stadium, Gulshan Ground, and Nagrota. About 15 states are participating in the games to be held in winter capital. Previously, the School Game Federation of India (SGFI) had allotted these events both Jammu and Kashmir but due to the prevailing circumstances in the valley, the SGFI has accepted the request of the authorities to organize both these events in Jammu. According to the sources, teams of boys and girls have been selected and are undergoing training in their respective states. 22 girls and 24 boys have been selected to represent their respective states. Director General, State Sports and Youth Affairs S A Laharwal, talking to TNI said "We have finalized all the arrangements such as boarding, lodging, transport etc have been finalized and 6 venues are ready for holding these events". How ever, many sports experts are of the opinion that these games will be acid test for the concerned authorities. It is pertinent to mention here that teams for Under 19 School Football Championship are selected after district level tournaments. Selected players in district level are further under go rigorous trial for further selection in the state level team. |
