IAP organizes CME on Diarrhoea | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 13: State Branch of Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP) organized a CME on Management of Persistent Diarrhoea in children here today. Renowned Pediatric Gastroentologist Prof Dr B R Thapa was the guest speaker. Prof Dr Thapa is the son of the soil and is Head of the Pediatric Gastroentology unit at PGI, Chandigarh. Addressing on the occasion, he threw light on the Persistent diarrhoea in children and its management. He stressed on the role of breast feeding, initiation of cereal based complimentary diet at right time, personal hygiene, judicious use of antibiotics, low osmolarity ORS and zinc supplementation in prevention of persistent diarrhea. He further said that bottle feeding was the single most important factor leading to acute and persistent diarrhea. He emphasized the role of nutrition in management of persistent diarrhea as it not only prevents malnutrition but also helps in controlling diarrhea. Head of the deptt of Pediatrics, ASCOMS Prof Dr D B Sharma and Head of the department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, and GMC Jammu Prof Dr Rekha Harish chaired the session. The other senior Pediatricians and Consultants who attended the CME included Dr U C Lahori, Prof Dr Kumkum Sharma, Dr A S Sasan, Dr D R Sarmal, Dr N K Pargal, Dr G S Saini, Dr S S Slathia, Dr Romesh Khajuria, Dr Kewal Samotra, Dr Ashu Jamwal, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, and Dr Vishal Tandon besides others. Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra conducted the proceedings of the programme and Dr Ravinder Gupta delivered the welcome address. |
