Congress leaders divided over Peerzada's tenure as PCC Chief
7/27/2006 6:13:42 PM
Jammu,July 27 :- Conflicting views are being dished out by senior congressmen regarding the restructuring of the PCC by installing a dynamic party leader as PCC President in place of Peerzada Mohd.Sayed.
One set of congress leaders said here today that the reports of imminent change of PCC President were being circulated by the Peerzada's detractors. These detractors, according to sources close to Mr Mohd.Sayed, had even started circulating the names of prospective candidates who could be appointed as the PCC head.
The anti-Peerzada lobby had manipulated reports that some experienced and dynamic party leader was being appointed as PCC Chief because Peerzada had failed to deliver the goods. One senior Congress leader said that Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, had felt displeased with the performance of Peerza Syed on the plea that he and his team in the PCC had not been able to cash on the Government decision on the creation of eight new districts.
The responsibility of explaining to people the benefits of the decision on carving out eight new districts and 13 tehsils had been shared by Mr Azad when he visited several areas in the state in recent weeks.
The anti-Peerzada lobby had gone to the extent of claiming that two working Presidents, one for Jammu and the other for Ladakh. However,Congress sources said that the AICC had rejected the idea of having two working Presidents for Jammu and Ladakh in case the PCC Chief hailed from the Kashmir valley because already the state had been witnessing regional passions and by appointing two working Presidents the congress would be sending a wrong message to the people of the state and to those favouring regional unity.
The sources said that Peerza Mohd.Sayed has been asked to revamp the congress committees at the state and the district level.Another suggestion given to him is that he should not initiate a programme for countering the anti-Government campaign launched by the opposition parties in Jammu.
One thing is certain: whether Peerzada Mohd.Syed is retained as PCC Chief or replaced by another party leader from Kashmir the PCC setup was being reorganised to make it more effective than it is at present.
