Agriculture deptt organizes training programme on cultivation of white button mushroom

Jammu, Sep 15: The mushroom Dev. Scheme, of Department of Agriculture, organized a practical training cum demonstration programme on cultivation of white button mushroom at its Demonstration cum Training Centre Talab Tillo, Jammu. In this training programme different stage of button mushroom cultivation shall be covered, in which all the interested mushroom growers shall be participating. S.R. Galotra Chief Agriculture officer Jammu inaugurating the camp in which 146 participants interested in mushroom growing including unemployed youths, farm women and retired persons from different pockets of Jammu districts as well as from far flang areas like Sudhmahadev, Sunderbani, Reasi etc. attended the training programme. S.R. Galotra while interacting with the participants appreciated the role of farming community in general and mushroom grower in particular for taking up mushroom cultivation as a small scale entrepreneur. He also apprised the participants regarding the efforts being made by department to increase their income by providing requisite technology and material inputs for diversification and adoption of improved agricultural practices. He further added that activities like mushroom cultivation has a great potential being a cash crop and gives more than 200% profit over a smaller period of time.
R.L. Bangotra Mushroom Development Officer Jammu while addressing the gathering stressed for the formation of Self Help Groups (SHG) for taking up mushroom cultivation as income generating units. The mushroom growing being quite profitable activity can easily be taken up by unemployed youths, farm women and retired persons.
S.L. Dhar Spawn Production Officer advised the mushroom growers to lift the spawn only 10 to 12 hours before spawning for getting the better yield.
In technical session, Anil Kumar Pandoh & Aman Jyot Sharma Mushroom Development Assistants delivered the lectures regarding the technical aspects of mushroom growing and also clarified the various queries raised by the participants to their entire satisfaction.
