| Poonch MLA conducts meet to review law and order | | | EARLY TIMES report
Poonch, Sept 15: MLA poonch Aijaz Jan today conducted door to door meetings in Poonch town in spite of curfew being imposed there for the second consecutive day as a preventive measure and deliberated upon the public to remain indoors in wake of prevailing law of the land at present. He further appealed to the masses to maintan peace and communal harmony and defeat the designs of some mischevious elements with some vested interests in disturbing public order. Later in the day he had a meeting with Major General O M Parkash SM GOC and Brig 93 Inf. Brigade V.S.Sreenivasm VSM and DDC Poonch Kuldeep Khajuria regarding the prevailing situation and measures to control the present crisis and thanked the army for its support in the periphery of Poonch town during odd times.
He praised the 93 Brigade for their all time valuable contributions for Poonch town which have become mandatory for people there. He also thanked the GOC for the new Army school which will be inaugurated shortly in Sawijan Mandi. He expressed the shock over the killing of civilians in Mendhar town and appealed the public to be at peace so that no further loss of lives could take place. He thanked the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for immediate action and despatching top officers for on spot assessment of losses and remedial measures in this border district. He requested the district magistrate Poonch for effective and timely action in diffusing the tension. He also thanked the Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities of Poonch town for cooperation in this crisis and appealed all of them to maintain peace and stop getting carried away from rumours. Meanwhile Court directed Principal to provisionally admit the petitioner in B.Com-I. This will not confer any right of the petitioner. JNF
