MC conducts drive against adulteration

Jammu, Sept 15: The Municipal Magistrate alongwith health officer and a team of food inspectors of Jammu Municipal Corporation checked the various food establishment of the Jammu city and booked 14 defaulters under the provision of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954.
A fine of Rs. 6500 was charged from the defaulters on spot. Apart from this, the team of food inspectors led by Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation also had inspected various food establishments like sweet shops, restaurants, fruit juice corners, cooked food dhabas, meat & chicken shops, bakery shops to check the quality of food items being sold in the city in the areas of Muthi, Barnai, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, Janipur, Indra Chowk and BC Road. During the inspection about 40 food establishments were checked and 14 defaulters were booked under the provisions. A fine of Rs. 2700 (Rupees twenty seven hundred only) was also charged from the defaulters on spot. During the drive the team also destroyed 20 kgs of unwholesome sweets and 10 litresof fruit juice on spot. Besides this, while continuing the drive to check the adulteration of milk, the team led by municipal veterinary officer visited the areas of Jewel, Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti, Satwari, Gangyal, Digiana and Kunjwani and checked 63 milk cans, out which 9 cans were sent to laboratory to check the quality of the milk and one can found unfit for human consumption was destroyed. A fine of Rs. 1850 was charged from the defaulters on spot. The team also lifted 29 stray animals from the areas of Jammu city Panjthirthi, CPO chowk, Rehari, Paloura, Janipur, Akhnoor Road, Jewel, Talab Tillo, Narwal, Railway Road, Channi Himmat, Trikuta Nagar, Digiana, etc., and impounded the stray animals in the Municipal pound.
A fine of Rs. 1220 was also charged from the owners of these stray animals. Also an amount of Rs. 6840 was realized as auction fee of the stray animals.
