| STRINGERNT SECURITY IN PLACE AHEAD PREZ VISIT TO KASHMIR | | | Srinagar,July 27: Stringent security arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of two-day visit of President Avul Pakir Jainulabideen Abdul Kalam to restive region of Kashmir beginning Friday. Security agencies have been put on a high alert ahead of visit of President Kalam to Kashmir beginning tomorrow, police officials said. Security has been tightened on all the routes through which the President is expected to pass during his visit to the valley, they said. Facing criticism and hue and cry over the unprecedented security arrangements during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit on May 24, the security forces and other agencies are on their toes to avoid a repeat of the situation during Kalam's visit. Entire Srinagar is presenting a look of a fortress with even pedestrian movement being under severe check. Kalam is expected to address the legislative assembly and council of Jammu and Kashmir jointly and attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of state high court during his visit. Dummy routes have also been created to keep the movement of the President secret during his visit. The frisking of vehicles and passengers is going on at full speed across the City. To ensure that no untoward incident takes place and militants don't strike, the security agencies and the administration are putting all the resources at work. Keeping in view the escalation in violent incidents after the second round table conference on Kashmir was held in Srinagar on May 25, the entire uptown of Srinagar is under thick surveillance of security agencies. A high level meeting attended by top level officers from police, paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies was held during which the arrangements right from Airport to the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) was reviewed. In wake of the 7/11 serial blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar, maximum care is being exercised to thwart attempts aimed at creating any situational trouble. Deputy Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police (Kashmir Zone) Farooq Ahmad told The KIP that no chances would be taken and no compromises made vis-à-vis ensuring foolproof security arrangements. "We're making appropriate security arrangements and no chances are being taken in this regard," Mr Farooq said. 'The militants have in the past carried out attacks to coincide with VVIP visits to Kashmir. That is part of their strategy, but we are doing everything possible to thwart their designs,' he said. President Kalam, is arriving in Leh on Friday and will be flying to Srinagar the same day. He is scheduled to inaugurate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. He will also address the joint session of state legislature at SKICC. However, the Kashmir Bar Association has announced that it would not attend the conference, which is part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. A large number of Judges and jurists from all over India are likely to participate. Women's separatist outfit Dukhtarn-e-Millat led by Syeda Asiya Andrabi in a press release has supported the decision taken by Bar Association of not participating in the diamond jubilee celebrations. "The decision taken by Bar is historic," the press release said. Meanwhile, separatist alliance All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Geelani group) has called for two-day strike against the President's visit and Dukhtaran-e-Millat too has supported the strike call.
