Separatists trying to incite people to violence in sensitive areas of Jammu region | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 16 : The state Government has been asked by the centre to adopt a twin strategy for dealing with the current spell of violence in the state in which over 94 people have been killed in firing opened by security forces during the last over three months. Official sources said that under the central guidelines the state Government has been told to initiate firm measures against those indulging in violence and at the sametime order action against those security personnel or officers who order firing on the protesters. The sources said that the tackling of the law and order in the Kashmir valley has been mainly entrusted to the senior functionaries of the police,CRPF and the Army.And after series of discussion among senior officers of these organisations,that too in the context of the further purge in the level of violence in the Kashmir valley,it has been decided to enforce strictly curfew restrictions.During the last three days these restrictions have been in force round the clock and supply of water,milk and other essential commodities in those areas has been affected where the level of violence had,in the recent days, touched a new high. Under the new tough measures number of Srinagar based newspapers have failed to hit the stands because of cur fgew restrictions. Restrictions on telecasting of controversial news items,clippings and other reports has been banned so that baseless, concocted and false reports were not circulated fovitiating the atmosphere. At the same time the Government has decided to act fast wherever reports regarding misuse of powers by the police and CRPF officers reached the Government. Official sources said that it was as part of the plan that the Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah, ordered immediate action against SDPO and his four PSO's in Mendhar who was charged with having ordered firing in which four demonstrators, protesting against the desecration of the holy Koran,were killed on Wednesday.Sources said that a case of murder has been slammed on the SDPO and his four SPO's. The State Government has decided to order probe in any other such incident and the guilty would be punished which could help people in developing confidence in the Government. Sources said that the law and order problem has been entrusted to those who head the various forces while the ruling alliance has been asked to concentrate on blunting the campaign launched by the separatists. The ruling alliance has been told to announce certain people-friendly schemes so that those already distressed by poverty and unemployment were helped to come out of their distress. In the meantime,a decision has been taken to send additional companies of security forces to some sensitive areas, including Poonch, Rajouri and Doda districts where people were being incited to indulge in violence on one pretext or the other. Intelligence reports have revealed that separatists,operating in the Kashmir valley,have decided to initiate measures so that incidents of violence were extended to some areas in the Jammu region.It is in this context that additional companies of security forces were to be sent to some sensitive areas in the Jammu region. The state Government has decided to seek additional forces from the centre in case the situation demanded additional deployment. |
