Centre again demonstrates bias against Jammu region: Harsh Dev | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 16:-The leadership of the Panthers Party is of the view that the Congress led UPA Government in the centre seems to have come to the conclusion that for discussing the volatile situation in the valley and other parts of the state there was need only for involving leaders from the valley based political parties in any dialogue process. This was stated by the working chairman of the Panthers Party,Harsh Dev Singh.Harsh said the Wednesday's All Party meeting convened by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had no representation from the regions of Jammu and Ladakh.Explaining it he said leaders of the National Conference and the PDP,which are essentially kashmir centric organisations, had been invited to the meeting. And the PCC Chief, Saifuddin Soz,represented the state Congress but he too belongs to the Kashmir valley. In reply to a question Harsh Dev said "it is surprising that the Panthers Party and leaders of the Jammu unit of the BJP who had been invited to the All Party meeting which the Prime Minister had convened in July had been sidelined this time."Asked what could be the reason he said "I cannot say anything because whatever decision the Prime Minister and his advisers took about keeping Jammu and Ladakh based leaders out of the meeting is yet another inst ance of discrimination of the people of the regions of Jammu and Ladakh." Harsh said that the July meeting was boycotted by the PDP despite Manmohan Singh's telephonic talk to Mehbooba Mufti suggesting her to attend the meeting and this time she was quick to respond to the invitation for which the centre made arrangements for a special flight."Well I have no problem if the Prime Minister gives preferrential treatment to one politcian or the other over the head of other political leaders. But my problem is why should Jammu based leaders be sidelined and ignored.""Does the centrte await Jammu based leaders to incite people to violence so that the representatives of the two r egions were represented in any process of dialogue by the centre?"Harsh asked. He said possibly the Congress led UPA Government did not want to get embarrassed by the stand the Panthers leadership would take in the All Party meeting. He said in the meeting held in July "the Panthers party leaders had demanded, that too vociferously, imposition of the Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir." "We had also shed light on the nonperformance of the state Government led by Omar Abdullah and had disclosed that the current spell of violence would end once the state was placed under the Governor's rule because the valley was brimming with anti-Omar sentiments,"he added. Harsh said hence the Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, and AICC Chief,Sonia Gandhi, decided to "keep us away from the meet" as they were not pr epared to stomach anything against Omar Abdullah. He said the leaders of the state unit of the BJP should have been invited because in July meeting they had totally opposed the demand for placing the state under the Governor's rule,a statement that had pleased not only Prime Minister but Omar Abdullah too.He said "agreed that the BJP was represented by top leaders at the national level but there should have been some party leaders from the state as the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was to be discussed. He said the Prime Minister may claim that the PDP and the NC leaders were invited because they are r egional parties."what about the panthers Party which is essentially a regional party despite the fact that it has its units in the union capital and other states? 'He asked.Harsh described the Prime Minister's noninclusion of the Panthers Party in the All Party meeting nothing but "bias against the Jammu region."He wanted the Congress led UPA Government to abandon its policy of appeasement of one region against the other adding that the state of Jammu and Kashmir comprises three r egions of Ladakh,Jammu and Kashmir.Hence it was imperative for the centre to give equal treatment to people of all the three regions. |
