Former cop Ashok Bhan jumps on to Amitabh Mattoo's bandwagon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah once said that he could not induct in his Council of Ministers a Kashmiri Hindu because no "suitable" Kashmiri Hindu was available, not even former Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya. Of course, he did not name Bakaya, who masquerades as a representative of the displaced Kashmiri Hindus and works day and night to advocate the National Conference's perverted and anti-India ideology among his co-religionists. Omar Abdullah has, it now appears, got a "suitable" Kashmiri Hindu in the person of former Director General of Police Ashok Bhan. Omar Abdullah may induct Bhan in his council of Ministers subject to the condition that he remains in power, which is not likely to happen, as everyone has come to believe that he is the root cause of the present turmoil in the Kashmir Valley. Anyway, Bhan has opened up his cards in order to find a suitable place in the political establishment even if it negates all the displaced Kashmiri Hindus stand for. Ashok Bhan has not only come out openly in support of Omar Abdullah, who has been saying since days that "status quo is not an option", but has also practically jumped on to the former Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo's Pakistani bandwagon and put forth suggestions which, if accepted, would mean a dangerous legitimacy to the politics of separatism, communalism and cult of gun and stone-throwing. Actually, Bhan and Mattoo wrote two articles for The Hindustan Times, which were published on Wednesday, the day all-party meeting took place at the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the Kashmir situation and evolve consensus on the pernicious demands put forth by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, demands almost similar to the ones put forth by Syed Ali Shah Geelani. It was not a coincidence that the articles of Bhan and Mattoo appeared in the national daily the same day. Everything was well planned. Everything was calculated to vitiate the atmosphere on the eve of the all-party meeting. It is, however, a different story that the Prime Minister and his advisors did not walk into the trap laid down by Bhan and Mattoo and again snubbed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by not taking any decision on the demands put forth by him. The all-party meeting has only decided to send to Kashmir an all-party delegation for an on-the-spot assessment of the Kashmir situation. Nothing bad. It is hoped that the all-party delegation would also visit Jammu and Ladakh to ascertain the views of the people there on what led to the present turmoil in Kashmir, as also their views on the steps that should be taken to set things right in the state and restore peace and calm in the disturbed Valley. Jammu and Ladakh, like the displaced Kashmiri Hindus who have been left dumbfounded and aghast, particularly by Bhan, are the most important part of the problem. Solution to the Kashmir problem, which is fundamentally communal, regressive and exclusivist in character and implications, depends on the solution to Jammu problem, Ladakh problem and problem of the displaced Kashmiri Hindus. A number of disgusted and extremely angry and alarmed Kashmiri Hindus have told this scribe that what Bhan has written has "caused an immense damage to the cause of the displaced and persecuted community of Kashmiri Hindus." They have dubbed Bhan as a "black sheep, undependable and rank opportunist" and opined that "their community has been suffering because of the opportunists like Bhan and Mattoo. They have, in addition, told this scribe that "they would expose them and tell the powers-that-be in New Delhi that the likes of Bhan and Mattoo are not their representatives" and that "they are self-elected representatives." Such was the nature of anger of those with whom this scribe interacted on Monday to ascertain their views on what Bhan and Mattoo wrote in The Hindustan Times. What exactly did Bhan write: He, among other things, wrote: "The deadlock over Kashmir has to be broken and Chief Minister Omar Abullah is right that status quo is not an option (read a demand that unsettles the settled and reopens the issue of accession of J&K with India)…A large silent majority of people in Kashmir had eagerly awaited the results of the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) meeting. They (read fanatics, unruly mobs and separatists) had expected that a solution would be found. They were disappointed that it ended with nothing more than the oft-repeated willingness of the government to hold a dialogue…However, the (Wednesday) all-party meet does provide the government an opportunity to work out a consensus on the future road map (read major political concessions leading up to the state's virtual secession or pre-1953 politico-constitutional status or quasi-independence)…The question now is will we have to wait for violence to end before the government announces some confidence-building measures? The internal dimension has to be addressed…All cases of detainees under the Public Safety Act can be reviewed…Youngsters involved in stone-pelting incidents can be considered for release…The situation in 2010 is very different from what it was in 1990, when AFSPA was introduced. One day we will have to relieve the army of its duties. This hard political decision can't be endlessly postponed. It is time to consider a phased withdrawal, notwithstanding media reports of its opposition by the armed forces…The Government has to be magnanimous in announcing some confidence-building measures…The all-party meet should support the government to announce confidence-building measures to break the impasse. All eyes are on New Delhi." It needs to be noted that Bhan, who has a palatial house in Jammu and calls himself Kashmiri Hindu, had no word in his perverted dictionary that he could use to depict the plight of his own community and the plight of the people of Jammu and Ladakh. He had words and words in his perverted dictionary to depict the so-called miserable plight of the fanatics in Kashmir, who have wrecked havoc and forcibly evicted from Kashmir the Kashmiri Hindus. He has badly let down his own community and the people of Jammu and Ladakh by making common cause with those who want the Indian State to wither away and establish in the state "Nizam-e-Mustafa".
