Two day seminar on environmental issues begins | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 17: Two day seminar on "Global Issues on Environment” sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC) was today inaugurated at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade. Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu Prof. Y. R. Malhotra was special guest on the occasion. Principals of various colleges, ex-principals, experts, faculty members and students also attended the function. The programme began with lightening of traditional lamp and Saraswati Vandana followed by welcome address by the Principal Dr. Kiran Bakshi. Bakshi highlighted objectives of the seminar aimed at imparting knowledge and awareness about environmental problems and issues and developing strategies for pollution control and conservation of life on earth. This was followed by an introduction of the seminar by the organising secretary Dr. Pragya Khanna. Thereafter, keynote lecture was delivered by Chairman WWF India (J&K) V. P. Sharma in which he dwelt upon the need for collecting information and counteractive methodologies regarding pollution, global warming, climate change, etc. Prof. Y. R. Malhotra while addressing the gathering lauded the efforts and initiatives taken by the Principal and the organizers for providing a platform to sensitize and create general awareness among people at large on a very relevant issue. Seminar was divided into two technical sessions. First technical session was chaired by Prof. M.K. jyoti, Prof. Kadambari Gupta and Prof. Zahoor Chatt in which there were 10 oral presentations. Second session was chaired by Prof. N.K. Tripathi and Dr. Raj Kumar Rampal and Dr. Deepika Salathia in which 9 speakers participated. The function concluded with vote of thanks by Convenor IQAC Dr. M.S. Pathania.
