Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sep 17: Every thing in this world has a particular life span, it has to expire one day but the Power Development department (PDD)seemed to be working against this law of nature, are not ready to replace the decades old pole system in many parts of the state.
The PDD department once again showed its negligence in fulfilling the needs of the people. In the area of lower Barnai area of winter capital, many families of locals stay under the high voltage electric wires. The decades old poles are not changed from the residential areas to safer places even after repeated representations to the concerned authorities.
Large number of old electric poles with wires of 11,000 voltage are situated in the front of the houses of Barnai area, some times within the four walls of the houses, as a result people feel themselves constantly under life threat particularly in rainy season.
Lack of maintenance, improper repair of old poles can cause accidents in the urban areas anytime, but the authorities always remained in deep slumber.
Locals alleged that these poles were erected in the year 1957, at that time there was scanty population in the area. But situation has changed a lot after passage of 5 decades down the line. The poles are very old and stand in zig-zag position, the PDD department did not bother to change the poles.
The concerned agencies continue to work carelessly in their respective manner. Locals said that it means that there is no any value of life of locals in the eyes of the Power Development Department (PDD).
They also alleged department has never take serious action regarding this problem even after repeated attempts.
A senior officer of the PDD on the condition of anonymity said that this was not the problem of this area alone, such reports are also pouring in from other parts of the state.
The replacement of the poles would be done in a phased manner, that too after the proper availability of funds, he added.
