JU to host national seminar on J&K conflict | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 17: Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS) and Centre for Security Analysis (CSA) Chennai is organising a two day National Seminar on “Conflict in Jammu and Kashmir: Its Impact on Society, Polity and Economy’’ at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in the University of Jammu on September 21 and 22. The Seminar comprises five sessions which include Conflict Overview and its Impact on Polity; Inter-Provincial and Inter-Religious Relations; Impact on Governance and Economy; External Dimensions of the Conflict, and Effects on Specific Segments of Society. Participants taking part in the seminar include university professors, security experts, members of civil society, journalists, economists and representatives of industry and commerce who will discuss and deliberate upon the ongoing conflict in the state of J&K and its impact in the domains of security, society, polity and economy. The two-day seminar will be inaugurated by Prof Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, whileas the opening and closing remarks will be delivered by Lt Gen (Retd) V R Raghavan, President, CSA, Chennai. Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam, Director, DSRS will give welcome address. In the first session, Dr S S Bloeria, former Chief Secretary of J&K , will speak on ‘Conflict Overview’, whileas Balraj Puri, a noted human rights activist, will deliberate upon ‘Impact of Inter-Regional Relations on Politics of Jammu and Kashmir State and Vice-versa’. The second session on ‘Inter-Provincial and Inter-Religious Relations’ will be addressed by Prof. Navnita Chadha Behera on ‘the Impact on Inter-provincial Relations’, whileas Prof. Noor Ahmed Baba will speak on ‘Kashmir Special Status: Myth and Reality’ and Dr. Arun Joshi will focus on ‘Impact on Inter-Religious/ Communal Relations’. In the third session, Prof. R.L. Bhat will focus on ‘Impact on Economy’ and Mr. Vikrant Kuthiala will speak on ‘the Impact on Commerce and Industry’. Dr. Ashish Saxena will speak on the ‘Impact on Governance’. The fourth session is devoted for the debates on ‘the External Dimensions of the Conflicts’. Dr Baljit Singh, will discuss ‘Kashmir Conflict: A Reflection on Competing Nationalisms of India and Pakistan’ and Dr Monir Alam will throw light on ‘Pakistan’s Policy towards the Conflict’. The last session is devoted on the ‘Effect on Specific Segments of Society’. Ms. Roopali Sharma will throw light upon ‘Gender Dimension of the Conflict’ whileas Dr.Javaid Rahi will highlight the Impact of the ‘Conflict on Gujjar and Bakerwals’ and Pradeep Dutta, will speak on ‘Politics of Displacement and Trust Deficit’.
