EKTA UTSAV COMMENCES

The Army and Air Force garrison at Leh have organised Ladakh Ekta Utsav in concert with the civil administration from 27 Jul to 30 July 06. The objective of the Utsav is to celebrate the spirit of the people of Ladakh towards nurturing democracy, communal harmony and secularism. The Utsav was inaugurated today by the Chief Guest Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command. Lt Gen JK Mohanty, UYSM,SM,VSM, GOC 14 Corps and Air Vice Marshal SK Gahlot, VM AOC J&K were present during the occasion.

The impressive inauguration ceremony included a mesmerising Air Show, a Motorcycle and Martial Arts display, Micro-lite flying, Hot Air Ballooning and a Horse Show. In a joint services display the Army soldiers exhibited their professional skills by slithering down from an Air Force helicopter and simulating the capture of an enemy locality. A Kisan Mela, a Medical and Veterinary Camp and display of Military Equipment will also be organised during the Utsav. On 28 July 06, a Band display, a joint Army, Air Force and civil cultural show, a Dog Show and an exhibition will enthral the people. The Ladakh Ekta Rally on 29 July and the Veterans Rally on 30 July will herald the termination of joyous celebrations.

Alongside the rest of India, Ladakh continues to prosper, progress and develop while retaining its distinct culture. The contribution of the Indian Armed Forces in protecting the peope and providing assistance in all dimension and facets of life has been significant and is much appreciated by the entire population of Ladakh. While addressing the people of Ladakh during the inauguration ceremony, Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor termed the Utsav as a unique occasion that would showcase the multicultural heritage of Ladakh. He emphasised the glorious traditions of the people of J&K that is a shining example of the secular and plural culture enshrined by our fore fathers in our Constitution. He paid rich tributes to the people of Ladakh for being in the forefront of the State’s successful resistance to divisive forces. He expressed the hope that the existing synergy between the Armed Forces and the people of Ladakh would continue in the future to lead the region towards prosperity and development.
