Better roads, civic amenities in border areas govt’s priority: Dy CM

JAMMU, Sept 18 : Centre and State Governments are focusing on linking all the far-flung and border villages of the state with the nearest urban centres, besides upgrading the basic amenities at par with the cities to improve the socio-economic condition of these areas
This was stated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand while interacting with locals during a serious of public darbars held at border villages of Barbah, Kalah, Jogwan, Sohera, Balli Manah and Gullava in his home constituency Khour
Listing various road and other projects taken up in the area, he said like elsewhere in the state, massive road connectivity programme has been launched with a view to accelerate economic activities in the border areas of Jammu . He said the present government was tirelessly working for the development of far-flung areas by providing better civic amenities and other social infrastructure.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed upon the need for bringing in more accountability and transparency in timely utilization of funds and completion of the ongoing projects within stipulated time frame. He asked the people to keep a watch on the implementation of developmental and welfare schemes in their respective areas as it will help in enforcing accountability in the public affairs. He also enumerated various welfare schemes undertaken by government for improving socio-economic conditions of the people of the state.
Tara Chand said that participation of the people was imperative for need based and all round development of their areas, hoping that the state will soon have a full-fledged Panchayat system that will facilitate devolution of the financial and decision making powers to the common man. he said that coalition government was fully aware of people’s problem living in hilly and border areas, and it was making all out efforts to mitigate them . he said provision of road connectivity, drinking water, health, education, ration and power in every nook and corner of the state tops the agenda of the government. He said that UPA Government in centre, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi has provided liberal funding to develop the rural areas on the modern lines.
