Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 18: Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s business units falling in Kathua district of Jammu province have been provided 7000 packets of fresh currency notes of Rs.5 and Rs.10 in addition to fresh currency of higher denomination.
This has been done in pursuit of the initiative – Clean Currency, Clean Commerce - where the objective of the bank is to phase out non-issuable and soiled currency notes from the market and provide fresh currency notes to the general public in a hassle free manner.
Bank shall be extending the facility of exchanging soiled notes under its ‘Operation Clean up initiative’ across the entire district through its various business units of the bank which are located even in the far flung areas like Bani, Machheddi, Basohli, Mahanpur etc.
Notably, the bank has been erecting stalls and mobile vans of fresh currency on the festive occasions of Navratras, Id-ul-fitr and Christmas and recently they had pressed into service four mobile vans outside the mosques in Jammu on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-fitr.
Bank authorities have highly appreciated the cooperation extended by the staff and officers of the Issue Department as well as the whole hearted support from officers of other Department of Regional Office of RBI, Jammu, in making the Clean Note Policy of RBI and ‘Operation Clean-Up’ of J & K Bank a great success.
Meanwhile, the bank has appealed to the public to keep the legal tender of the country clean by not writing anything on it and not to stitch or staple the currency notes. They have advised that considering the currency notes as the national honour, these should be treated with care and respect. Meanwhile, the bank shall be shortly sending remittances of fresh currency notes to the other districts of Jammu province which include Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi and Udhampur shortly.
It is in place to mention that in a similar move, the bank on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr has made available 114000 fresh note packets of Rs.5 and Rs.10 denominations in all the districts of Kashmir valley in addition to fresh currency of higher denominations.
