Comprehensive plan for development of Bawe-Wali Mata temple on anvil: Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 19: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that Government has initiated a massive infrastructure developmental programme at prime tourist destinations, besides taking up the development of new tourism destinations for boosting lucrative tourism industry in the State. The Minister was interacting with the devotees at Shri Bawe Wali Mata, Bahu Fort, where the work on development of temple pathway involving Rs. 12 lakh was started in his presence. Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority (JDA), Mr. Vinod Sharma, besides other senior officers of PHE, PDD, R&B and Floriculture accompanied the Minister. Mr. Bhalla said that said Bahu Fort area is important from pilgrimage point of view as there are important religious places like Baw Wali Mata, Mahamaya Temple in Mahamaya forests and Kaliveer Devsathan at Sunjwan. He said that Government is making concerted efforts to develop Bahu Fort area with all infrastructural facilities so that the devotees and tourists do not face any inconvenience. He said that “to meet the challenges in tourism our emphasis is on diversification and providing requisite infrastructure facilities for adventure, pilgrim and heritage tourism in the State”. The Minister said that efforts are being made to divert tourists of Mata Vaishno Devi to other pilgrim places and leisure and adventure spots of the region and added that for the purpose the Government has upgraded infrastructure and recreational facilities at tourist spots across the region. He said tourist reception Centers, wayside facilities and huts have been developed along the way to almost all the tourist destinations, including Bahu Fort, Patnitop, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur and Kathua. Mr. Bhalla said that a number of measures have been taken to develop new tourism spots and conservation of centuries old monuments of the region. He said that focused attention was being paid on conservation and restoration of pristine glory of Bahu Fort, Mubarak Mandi Palace and other heritage places, besides upgradation of tourism related infrastructure, in order to attract domestic and foreign tourists towards City of Temples. He said the major endeavors of the Government were to develop an artificial lake in River Tawi at a cost of Rs. 50 crore and construction of cable car project at a cost of Rs. 18 crore from Mubarak Mandi to Bagh-e-Bahu. The Minister said that Government has sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh for construction of Darshani Deodi near Kalika Colony adding that Rs. 90 lakh has been earmarked for road widening from Sheikh Nagar Morh to Harki Poodi on the bank of river Tawi. He said Golf Tourism in Jammu was also being developed on the pattern of Srinagar, adding that development of Sidhra Golf Course was the first step in this direction. He said the Ist phase of the Rs.44 crore Golf Course is ready to take off. He assured the people that keeping in view the importance of pilgrims tourism in the division, necessary facilities would be provided to the devotees at all pilgrim spots including Bawe Wali Mata shrine. Earlier, the Minister paid obeisance at the Bawe Wali Mata temple and prayed for peace and prosperity of the state. Later, a deputation of pilgrims and locals met the Minister and submitted a memorandum for establishment of separate Bawe Wali Mata temple board at par with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji and Shri Amarnath Nath Ji shrines boards. The Minister gave patient hearing to them and assured that the matter would be discussed with the Governor of the State. He directed the JDA to prepare a comprehensive plan for developing the ancient temple with all infrastructure facilities, which include healthcare, drinking water, sanitation, illumination, pre-fabric sheds and lodging etc.
