| Balwant Thakur’s Dogri play ‘Suno Eh Kahani’ staged in Natrang’s Sunday Theatre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu Sept 19: Dogri play ‘Suno Eh Kahani’ conceived written, designed and directed by Balwant Thakur was featured in Sunday Theatre series at Natrang Studio Theatre. This highly innovative play kept the audience spell bound, the versatility of the play can be seen from the response this play triggers both in open air and studio presentations.
Today’s play was based on the story of a young girl ‘Guddi’ representing a major section of rural lower middle class adolescent young girls, who are forced into matrimony at a very tender age. Guddi is fully aware of the strains of early marriage, as it has taken its toll in untimely death of her mother. She wants to grow and get educated before she takes up the responsibility of married life. Her dreams are shattered, a 'suitable' groom is found and marriage date is fixed. While the marriage ceremonies are being performed, help comes in the form of intervention by legal authorities and decision of marriage is deferred for appropriate time. The play highlights the plight of young girls who are sacrificed at the altar of rotten, redundant customs of illiterate and ignorant sections of our society.
Neeraj Kant played the role of Father whereas Sajra Qadir played the role of young girl with full theatrical versatility. The narrators of the play Mohit Sharma and Pankush Verma did multiple roles thus demonstrating their hold over performing of the variety of characters. Rohit Verma as clownish groom generated repeated laughters through his comic acts. Rahul Singh in his short entry gave engrossing performance. The chours characters of the play included Mohd. Yaseen, Jaswinder Singh, Sumit Sambyal, Ravinder Singh, Ricky Bhat, kuldeep Mehra and Azad Kumar.
The lights were operated by Mayank Bakshi. Sumeet Sharma coordinated the show and the presentation was done by Ishfaq Anwar.
