BJP ridicules pro-Autonomy slogans | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU,Sept 19: BJP has ridiculed the slogans of Azadi, Plebiscite, Autonomy and that of Self-Rule as out come of communal out-look and termed these as detrimental to the unity and integrity of the country as also the interest of the people of even this State. Stoutly reacting to the suggestions for Plebiscite and slogans of Azadi by the separatists and enemy agents, the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of independent India and the people of this State have also repeated their pledge to defend and maintain unity and integrity of the country by taking part in the general elections to the Assembly as also to the Lok Sabha, in addition to signing of the Instrument of Accession of this State with the Indian Union by the Maharaja Hari Singh of the State, who was legally authorized to do so. Those who had pledged their loyalty towards India and at least taken oath of the Constitution for more than half a dozen times, also included the secessionist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and some of his other colleagues. If they are operating under some pressures and compulsions now, the course of the history cannot be changed, Prof. Gupta added. The BJP leader said that Pakistan has no locus standi in Jammu and Kashmir. Its position was that of an aggressor. The much talked resolution of the UNO adopted on January 5, 1949, regarding Plebiscite to decide the future of Kashmir, had first and foremost condition that Pakistan would vacate all the held areas of this State creating ground for Plebiscite. But instead of fulfilling the conditions, Pakistan had not only constructed military structures of permanent nature and raised huge Dams submerging historical City of Mirpur and large number of villages for the benefit ofPakistan. In addition to this, the invaders have changed the entire demographic character of these occupied areas, so much so, not a single Hindu-Sikh and other minorities have been allowed to stay and live there although they formed about 35 per cent of the population which are now ironically called as Azad Kashmir, he added and further said that a big crime has been committed by permanently enslaving the people of Gilgat-Baltistan by merging these areas in Pakistan, and also handing over large chunks even to China as part of their diplomacy. The BJP leader pointed out that even the UN leaders have termed this 61-year old resolution as redundant and obsolete but it was strange that the troublemakers in Kashmir are still harping about this resolution of UNCIP. Those who are aspiring and talking about Azadi, should be pushed to Pak-held areas to experience that what type the people there are having the Azadi, he remarked. Addressing meetings at Kabirnagar and other places here today, Prof. Gupta said that the so-called Autonomy and separate status under Article 370, has caused more harm than any good to the people of this unfortunate part of the country. They have been deprived of their democratic and other basic rights. A number of evils like that of secessionism, corruption, black-mailing the Centre and numerous other problems are there but for this what is called as SPECIAL status. The protagonists of Autonomy are having communally diseased mind, he alleged and so is the case with Self Rule and other such like slogans. But the country having adopted pluralism can hardly afford any more communal division and the nationalist India would oppose tooth and nail any reversal of the integration process of this State with Indian Union. In course of his tour of his Jammu West Constituency, Prof. Gupta announced for providing rupees five lakhs from his Constituency Development Fund for construction of a community hall at Kabirnagar. Those who accompanied Prof. Gupta in course of his tour, also including Shri Surinder Bhagat, Shri Sai Dass, Shri G R Bhagat, Shri Nar Singh Dass and others.
