| Large quantity of illicit liquor seized, Driver arrested | | | DODA OCT-27-A large quantity of illicit liquor unauthorized brought from Saharanpur Punjab for sale in various parts of Srinagar was seized and the truck driver taken into custody for questioning. It is for the first time that such a huge quantity of IMF liquor has been seized by the Police.
A Police spokesman said that Police has launched a vigorous drive against drug peddlers and sellers of illicit liquor. He said on specific information, the Police laid a Naka at Malhori Passi under the jurisdiction of Police station Assar and intercepted a truck bearing NO 2379-JK01A. From the search of the said truck, a large quantity of IMF liquor (610) bottles of different brands was found concealed under the salt bags loaded in the truck. The recoveries included 239 bottles of 180 ml of Officers Choice Whiskey, 86 bottles of 375 ml of Director Special Whiskey, 95 bottles of 375 ml of Aristocrat Whiskey and 192 bottles of 180 ml of Aristocrat Whiskey.
The spokesman further said that a case FIR no 161/06 under section 48 of Excise Act has been registered in Police Station Doda against the truck driver Mohammed Sharief son of Abdul Aziz resident of Jathi Doda who has been arrested and the truck seized.
He said that on initial questioning, the Driver divulged that the liquor was brought from Saharanpur Punjab with the purpose to sell it illegally in various parts of Srinagar.
Further questioning of the Driver is going on to establish the identity of his other associates in this illegal trade.
This is for the first time that District Police has seized such a huge quantity of IMF liquor being smuggled in a clandestine manner. Investigation of the case is going on, the spokesman added.
