Govt sanctions 5 timber sale depots for Rajouri district: Mian Altaf | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 19: To facilitate the people of Rajouri District in getting timber timely for construction purpose, the Government has decided to sanction five timber sale depots in the district. This was decided at a meeting of officers of Forest Department and State Forest Corporation held at Rajouri yesterday. Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf Ahmad was in chair. Addressing the meeting, the Minister said that the opening of these depots will facilitate the people in getting timber at their doorstep. He also stressed upon the officers to reach out the people in providing their timber requirement within 15 days from the date of application submitted for the purpose. He also asked them to dump the timber in their depots so that the demand of the people is met out henceforth. Mian Altaf instructed the Wild Life Department authorities for immediate construction of Foot Bridge over Anis River in the district as it would help the department to curb man- animal conflicts in the area, besides connect the population of the area with other localities. The meeting was told that Social Forestry Department has planted 1.35 lakh plants over 131 hectares of land by spending Rs. 38 lakh in Rajouri district. Besides, 1.38 lakh plants are being planted over 138 hectares of land by spending Rs. 35 lakh in Poonch district, the meeting was told. The Minister also visited Sunderbani and Bathuni and planted saplings there.
