Fed up with continued strikes, Kashmiris in search of flats outside
9/20/2010 5:56:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 19: With normal life remaining paralysed in Kashmir Valley for last three months now, there is a simmering resentment among the mass in the Valley against the prolonged bandhs which have hit the common man worst.
Fearing the backlash from the separatists and anti national elements the people who have been hit hard by the three month long strike are hesitating to revolt against the protagonists of Azadi in Kashmir. But the resentment is growing among the masses to such an extent now against the forces who have set the Kashmir Valley on fire that they are not ready to tolerate them any more now .
According to sources there have been various incidents where the masses defied the dictates of separatists and refused to support the strike in different parts of the Valley in the last three months. However fearing the worst they later preferred to remain mum. But a section of the people who is totally dependent on the daily earning to feed themselves is in search of the proper opportunity to take on the separatists who have forced them to starvation, the sources added.
Sources said this section of masses in Kashmir has also accused the Government of its total inability in maintaining law and order in the Valley due to its weak-kneed policies and favours a tough action against the separatist forces. Recently in the Shangus township in South Kashmir district of Anantnag where a frenzy mob tried to set the Police Station ablaze were not allowed to do the same by the local residents who strongly resisted against the mob action, sources added.
The mob which had come from surrounding villages was not allowed to move towards the Police Station by the local inhabitants on the plea that the police station is located in their locality and whether it should be torched or not is to be decided by the local residents and not by the outsiders. This resulted in a minor clash among the people however the local residents did not allow the mob to torch the police station, sources added.
Sources said such a feeling has generated in different parts of the Valley among the people that the torching of the public and Government property is a loss to them and the local people should not allow the outsiders to set ablaze this property as they will be the sufferers tomorrow. This feeling is indicative that the masses in Kashmir will rise against the secessionist forces and anti national elements responsible for present turmoil in the Valley if prevailing situation continues to persist for more time, sources added.
Sources said the people are so fed up with the prolonged strikes and bandhs in Kashmir that a sizeable number of Kashmiris have contacted their friends outside the Valley to seek their help in purchasing plots or flats in Jammu or other parts of country so that they can lead a peaceful life as the daily bandhs, strikes and violence has made their lives miserable. And if the situation continues to remain same for more time there will be another silent migration from Kashmir and this time it will be of majority community.
The situation has deteriorated to such an extent in Kashmir that even the people suffering from headache or fever can't get a parastomal tablet from any where not to speak of other essential commodities of daily use. This has perturbed a sizeable number of Kashmiri people who are left with no alternative but to revolt against the separatists, sources added.
