3 ultras, jawan, civilian killed at Bandipora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 19: In two gunbattles between security forces and militants in Bandipora district of Kashmir, three militants, a jawan and a civilian were killed. A police spokesman said two encounters broke out in Dardpora and Pannar forest range in the morning. The two spots were just a few kilometers away from each other, he added. The gunbattles broke out when army launched search and cordon operations at the two places to flush out militants. The spokesman two militants and a trooper were killed in the Pannar encounter early in the morning. One more militant was killed in the evening, he added. A civilian was killed in Dardpora encounter after he was caught in cross fire between troops and militants. He was identified as Mohammad Shaban Khan. The army did not confirm the number of militants killed in the encounter when this report was filed. Official sources said the search operations in Dardpora and Pannar areas were launched by army following intelligence inputs that militants were planning to make strikes on security forces. Security had been stepped up in the area and reinforcements despatched there, the sources added. |
