PDP, NC lock horns once again, trade charges
Will All party delegates be able to 'assess real picture'?
9/20/2010 5:58:21 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 19: A day ahead of All Party delegation to Kashmir Valley, the two arch rivals PDP and ruling National Conference have locked horns , both trying to prove each other wrong in their intentions to present 'real' picture to the visiting politicians. In the backdrop of the din of allegations of both these parties against each other, will the high level delegation be able to 'register' the real picture and fulfil the purpose for which the visit is intended…….?
State's main opposition party PDP which only two days back 'behaved well' as a responsible mainstream political party when without creating any fuss it swiftly agreed to attend the All Party meeting convened by the Prime Minister at New Delhi. It did present its viewpoint, no matter that amounted to its already stated position and the rhetorical statements related to some vital issues of Kashmir. However, at the conclusion of the meeting PDP did agree on what emerged as a consensus of sending All party delegation.
Now what is it one day before that it prompted PDP to change the colours in terms of its involvement and participation in the scheduled meeting with the delegation. While the entire state machinery and political spectrum of the state remained busy in preparations for tomorrow's political activity, PDP chose to create confusion by changing its mind, at lest three times during the day vis-à-vis its participation in the meeting. First, in the morning it almost declared it did not intend to participate which was followed by its president Mehbooba Mufti's justification she presented in the press conference as why party changed its mind. However, later in the evening, the partyleadership started giving indications that it was reconsidering the decision. All these developments only reflected the 'dithering state of mind', for whatever reasons , PDP leadership was loaded with ahead of All Party delegation's visit to Kashmir.
PDP may well be right or wrong in the reasons it forth for having earlier in the day decided to stay away from the delegation alleging that state government was trying to sabotage the visit of high level delegation by way of organizing what it termed as fake interactions in a bid to prevent real situation from reaching the leaders in the delegation. As political opponent of the ruling NC it has all the reasons to nourish such apprehensions , it is a different matter these are well founded or not. But, the moot question remains should this party, claiming to be responsible political party be resorting to such kind of pre conditions that government should first adopt ' a given set of measures' which PDP deems proper before the visit of the All party delegation failing which it would not attend the meeting. Observers are only attributing PDP behaviour to party's only agenda of discrediting Omar led coalition tomorrow in front of the high level all party delegation.
On the other hand NC lashed out at PDP contending only two days before attended All Party Meet at New Delhi and appreciated the same in their statements later. Now, this party has again taken U-turn for their petty interests, NC Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said alleging that PDP is desperate to regain power in the State and is using the precious blood of Kashmiri youth for the purpose.
Amid the bickerings of the two political rivals, the question remains will the All Party delegation be able to get the 'real' picture of what it is actually to register in terms of the ongoing crisis in Kashmir ?
