Passenger sheds in Jammu-white elephants | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 20: Passenger sheds being made for the benefit of the passengers are not serving its purpose for which they were made. Passenger vehicles including buses, minibuses and even auto rickshaws not bother to stop in front of these passenger sheds. Passenger sheds in Jammu city and its adjoining areas, need special attention by the Transport authorities, as no passenger operators bothers to stop on them, violating the traffic rules with impunity. Even the passenger stand at their own at anywhere, which gives rise to traffic Jams in every length and breadth of the state. This presents a unique picture in the minds of tourists and pilgrims coming to the state, as in other states passenger vehicles used to stop at the prescribed passenger sheds. Passenger sheds in the winter capital needs special attention by the concerned transport authorities. The developmental authorities should keenly think upon the necessity of passenger sheds. Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, J S Manhas, when contacted, said that due to lack of proper infrastructure, it was not possible to check the all the passengers daily. He also said that it was also responsibility of the common people to use the passenger sheds, by this the vehicle operators would be forced to stop at the passenger sheds. Manhas further added that the concerned we fined the drivers and inquiry them who were not following the rules. Instead of the passengers' stop for the buses, beggers or 'sadhus' seen sleeping there.
