Amanjot guides MAM to retain football trophy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 20: Young Amanjot Singh today guided Government MAM College retain the annual inter-college football trophy beating the same opponent in GGM Science College 2-1 in the final played today at Science College grounds, here. International footballer, Amanjot, who has represented India in Subroto Cup school football tournament two years ago in 2008, scored both the goals for the winners MAM College. Amanjot netted the first goal for MAM College in the 31st minute to give his side a 1-0 lead in the first half of the well contested summit clash. However, the lead was equalized by equally good Science College in the 39th minutes but only to go down 10 minutes later. From Science College, Rahul Singh brought in the equalizer. MAM again went ahead with Amanjot scoring second goal for the team in the 49th minute. It was followed by attack and counter attacks from both the sides, but without any results. As compare to Science College, MAM got more goal chances in the last 20 minutes of the game but failed to net the ball. The final was witnessed by a healthy gathering of young supporters from both the sides. Among distinguished gathering was Vice-Chancellor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, who graced the occasion as chief guest. He gave away winners trophy and other individual prizes to the finalist teams. Speaking to the gathering, Vice-Chancellor said, "The way both the colleges have played in the final, we look forward to raise a strong football team of the University of Jammu for the forthcoming inter-university competition." He complimented both the teams for the superb play in the final and congratulated the host, GGM Science College for making the event a success. "It is our endeavor to encourage the affiliated colleges to host different events of the inter-college. Making GGM Science College host of the football event was a step in this direction," said the Vice-Chancellor. The chief guest was accompanied by Principal, GGM Science College and Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau as also Principal of MAM College, Prof Ajit Angral.
