| GCW Gandhi Nagar, Ramnagar women win | | Inter-college volleyball tournament | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 20: Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar and Degree College Ramnagar women won their respective matches on opening day of the inter-college volleyball tournament being organised by Department of Sports and Physical Education at University of Jammu grounds, here.
In the first match, Gandhi Nagar defeated Women College Udhampur 2-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-05). Dolkar and Priya Bharati played well for the winners Gandhi Nagar college.
Later, in the second match of the day, Ramnagar College registered easy straight sets 26-4, 25-6 win over GL Dogra College Hiranagar to move into the next round.
In another scheduled match, Trikuta Degree College got walkover Government Degree College Akhnoor while other two teams of Kawa Institute and Degree College Poonch did not turn up.
Walkovers dominate in basketball
Meanwhile, in inter-college men's basketball competition, walkovers dominated with only one match played against six scheduled games on the opening day at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu, here today.
In the only match played today, GGM Science College defeated Government Degree College Kathua 74-13. Silus Kundal was top scorer with 36 points while Amit and Sawan contributed 12 and 13 points respectively. From Kathua College, Vishal scored six points.
Among teams getting walkovers included Government SPMR College of Commerce, who made it into the second round after ASCOMS did not turn up.
