US envoy visits Leh, extends relief worth Rs 2.3 million to flood hit

Leh, Sept 20: U.S Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer today visited Leh to deliver Rs 2.3 million worth relief supplies to 400 rural families affected by last month's devastating floods.
Roemer personally distributes some of the relief materials like blankets to the flood victims of Shey village and rest of the relief supplier will be distribute among the victims through 'Leh nutrition Project' and 'Save the Child Fund'.
Earlier, Roemer along with his wife and some other officials visited flood affected areas of Shey. In Shey, although the casualties were less but the fertile agriculture land of almost entire village was completely destroyed and now became barren land.
The Ambassador inspected the flood affected lands and houses and addressed the victims in the gathering organised by local people to see Him.
Addressing to media personals, he appealed that tourist should not hesitate and do not feel fear to visit Leh. He says that when US Ambassador can come here without any fear than the tourist all over the world can came here. Roemer while replying to a media question regarding Kashmir problem said that Kashmir is an internal matter of India and US was looking for a peaceful and tangible solution. On the matter of Chinese infiltration, he said that he salute Indian Prime Minister for his effort to reach his neighboring countries to solve all outstanding issues. He said ''we have full faith in his leadership".
On the matter of Indo-US relation, he said that India and U.S always have good relation.
These two partners can be helpful in keeping away the WMD reaching into the hands of rough states.
These two partners have good trade relation and there are still ground on which these two partners can progress
.He paid visit to a local restaurant "Chopstick", who provide aid to foreign nationalist during the recent flood, and thanked the restaurant' owner Jumma.
Later, he went to Police headquarters and paid thank to local police for their service to needy flood victims and for the help and assistance which they had provide to foreign tourist, particularly to American tourist during recent flash floods.
