Whom does Sagar represent? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 20: The law minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar today admitted a harsh reality though unwittingly. Talking to a news channel, Sagar said he did not represent the people who observe strikes and stage protest demonstrations. When asked some persons were chanting slogans at various places, Sagar said: “We have invited the people who represent them. Now it is their choice. If they want to meet the visiting Parliamentary delegation they are welcome.” This is the first time when an `elected’ representative has admitted that the separatists represent the protesters. The leader of opposition and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mahbooba Mufti was very cautious while answering a similar question last week. Talking to Barkha Dutt of NDTV, Mahbooba did not say she did not represent them (protesters). Instead she: “They were with us during the assembly elections. They were with the National Conference but we have failed them.” Mahbooba availed the opportunity and severely criticized the National Conference government for “killing innocent youth.” She further said no where in India did police fire bullets on people protesting desecration of a religious book. Sagar has accused the Mahbooba of funding and sponsoring the stone pelters. But today, he was straight. He must be reprimanded for his `bold’ statement by the party high command. Sagar’s statement contradicts his patron’s (Dr Farooq Abdullah) who misses no opportunity to ridicule the separatists. He has gone to the extent of saying that they (separatists) represented only a handful of miscreants. A PDP worker preferring anonymity said: “Sagar has made an honest confession. How many people voted for him? He polled a few hundred votes and, therefore, can represent them.” Pertinent to mention, the separatists have managed to bring life to a halt in Kashmir for the past three months. Repeated appeals of Dr Farooq, Omar Abdullah and Ali Muhammad Sager have gone in vain. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah sought help from the separatists for restoring order.
