EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Septe 21: Although the hosts J&K have lost their first of the two league matches, still hopes of their qualifying for the knock-out stages of quarterfinals remains there when they face formidable Goa in a do or die battle tomorrow at BSF Ground, here at 4 pm in the ongoing 56th National School Games under-19 football at different venues, here.
In fact, the loss of Haryana in the hands of Goa today brought cheers on the faces of hosts boys. With a hope of making it to the knock-out stages, J&K boys are gearing up to take on Goa tomorrow. However, if the hosts have to qualify for quarterfinals, the margin of their victory should be higher then that of their opponents.
Earlier, in today’s group-B league tie, Goa defeated Haryana by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match was scored by Vishno Singh in the 55th minute of the well contested game played at MA Stadium in the evening session.
Meanwhile, two teams have qualified for the quarterfinals stages. These are last year’s champion, Punjab and semi-finalist, Uttrakhand.
Punjab has reached the knock-out stages with just one win over Maharashtra. In fact, in the absence of Andhra Pradesh, only two teams left in group-A thereby making it easy for Punjab to qualify the pool.
On the other hand, Uttrakhand won both of its league matches played against Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
In other matches of the day, Kerela, Delhi and IPSC had one-sided contests, while Uttrakhand had some tough moments against Madhya Pradesh before winning the game 1-0.

No ball pickers

Surprisingly, during a match played at one of the venues of University of Jammu, there was hardly any ball picker around the field. Most of the time, either the goal-keeper or spectators were seen picking-up the ball and handing it over to the players. However, as many as 20 on duty officials of different cadres of the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) were seen enjoying the game sitting in pavilion.

The Detailed Results: Goa bt Haryana 1-0; Kerela bt Pondicherry 4-0; Uttar Pradesh bt Orissa 1-0; Uttrakhand bt Madhya Pradesh 2-1; IPSC bt Gujarat 3-0; Delhi bt Bihar 4-1;
